Bel Ombre Windsurf Overview

Bel Ombre is a beautiful beach resort located in the south-west of Mauritius that still has the atmosphere of authentic Mauritius. The windsurf spot here is perfectly located at the end of Bel Ombre, right in front of the Beach Club. This spot suits all windsurfing levels. The spacious lagoon has flatwater, as well as waves further out at the reef. This is the perfect spot for all windsurfers as it offers a range of good quality but affordable hotels and the Bel Ombre Windsurf Centre. The close proximity to the main windsurf beach and resort amenities suit holidaymakers travelling with non-kiting partners or families.

The Windsurfing In Bel Ombre

The wind in Bel Ombre generally blows side to side-onshore from the left. The entire area is surrounded by a reef belt, very typical for Mauritius, providing super wave conditions outside the reef and perfectly flat water conditions inside. There are some coral patches within the lagoon, so for beginners, we recommend boots. There are some tides and currents that do affect the windsurfing conditions within the lagoon but these are nothing to worry about. The more Eastern the wind, the gustier the launching conditions.

Bel Ombre is divided into two areas: the wave spot and a huge standing range with shallow water. The standing range is ideal for beginners and encompasses about 700 m x 300m. Closer to the beach is a shallower area and beyond that deeper turquoise water that continues to the reef. Beyond the reef, you will be facing the open sea with waves for beginners and advanced windsurfers. Waves between 1 and 4 meters can be found here. As the centre here holds the exclusive right to use this spot, it is never crowded.
